The students of ATA College Prep created a mentoring program that kicked off at the end of September.
“The mentoring program is a great way for the younger students to connect with the upperclassmen,”said ATACP Senior Maggie O’Meara.
The program was designed for the younger students to be able to have someone to look to for advice, but also to help establish better relationships between the younger and older students.
“With the mentoring program the lower-classmen are able to seek help and wisdom from their mentors throughout the year; whether it be that they need help with their school work, guidance, or just need someone to talk to, the mentors are always there for them,” said Senior Morgan Barnhill.
Mentors brainstorm activities in weekly leadership meetings. Capture the flag, a baseball game, peer tutoring, and a hiking trip are only a few of the ideas that the mentors have come up with to establish better relationships between the mentors and mentees.
Mentors and mentees meet weekly over lunch to talk about their lives and to allow time for mentors to offer advice or guidance to their mentees. The mentors are able to share some of their life experiences with the mentees and are viewed as role models.
“It is a honor to be a mentor, especially at a small school like ATA College Prep, because of the close knit relationships formed between the mentors and the mentees,” said Senior AJ Garcia.
