Mindful Monday: The Power Of Voice

The Power of Voice

At ATA College Prep, we begin the year with student orientation where students engage with one another and begin to build an understanding of the culture, content and climate. We introduce the annual theme, which guides us on our learning quests, and we organize lessons and practices that will strengthen each.

This year we are contemplating the Power of Voice. How do we identify our voice, individuate it, cultivate its clarity, join it together with others', and use it as a tool for change?  A voice can soothe and incite; it can be creative and destructive; it can persuade and dissuade. It is a tool of communication through words, tone, and perspective. Many have used their voices to change the world; others use it to change the trajectory of a single moment in another's day.

Our internal voices powerfully guide our thoughts, words, and actions. We have the ability to direct that voice and in turn the outcomes of our days, weeks, years, and lives. Both the external and internal voices must be given space to grow and develop, and direction to strengthen their discipline and effectiveness.  A disciplined mind (over an undisciplined mind) can determine to pay attention to the voice that positively serves its desired goals.

Throughout the year we will be practicing methods that cultivate and communicate individuality and community in order to find personal and universal truths. We will develop academic and personal tools to help each student harness and use their voice. We will profile and get to know inspiring examples of voices from our community and throughout history to help extract the unique attributes and contexts of those who use their voice effectively. These efforts are found in CP Humanities classes, Leadership meetings, Stewardship, and Community Service activities.

Each CP student has been gifted with a Passion Planner to help them organize their days and months. In addition to viewing lessons and assignments on TeacherEase, please take time during each week to review, discuss, and take interest in the details of their days.

And, as always, we are looking for members of our community who would be positive examples of the power of voice to serve as guest speakers. If anyone comes to mind, please reach out and let us know.

Looking forward!
