Hannah Goes to Haiti

by CP student, Hannah Harrod

The week before spring break, I went to Haiti on mission trip.   Haiti is located between Cuba and Puerto Rico.  It shares the island with the Dominican Republic.  Haiti has a history of dictatorship and poor government leaving its people in crisis

On January 10, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake destroyed Haiti killing over 100,000 people.  There are now 400,000 children in Haiti without parents. 1 out of every 5 children will die before the age of five.  Haiti is one of the worst 3 countries in the world for receiving inadequate daily calories.

The church that I go to is Lake Hills Church and they support a orphanage in Haiti.  The director of the orphanage, Philip, does not turn any child away.  Before LHC supported them, they were not able to afford meat.  Now the orphanage has meat 3 times a week.

These children are a few of the fortunate who receive love, education and 3 meals a day.  Currently at the orphanage there are 34 kids ranging from ages 1-19.  Many of the kids’ parents are still alive but they can’t afford to take care of them.  Some of the kids have been physically and sexually abused.

When you drive down the street you see trash plied up on the side.

On a happier note, the kids are so amazing and loving. I am so blessed that I got to go to Haiti and cannot wait to go back!
